Holiday Season Burnout & The Ultimate New Year Reset

Updated: Nov 19, 2023

Thanksgiving is in less than two weeks - like, what?! After that, bring on the jingle bells and mistletoe, deck the halls, pop champagne and kiss your way into the New Year. We may as well just throw one big party because at this current rate of speed and time travel, are we evening going to be able to sit down between now and January 1st?!

I don't know how we're already here but I can tell you that if we don't take a moment to pause and set our intentions for the the remainder of the year, we can easily be looking at burning the candle at both ends and completely depleting ourselves. As a natural nurturer, I'm sure you want to show up and show out for the holidays, but are you prioritizing your own needs as well?

Don't stress though, I've got you

While I can't slow down time, I can help you with a few small pointers on how to nurture yourself through the next few months so you aren't completely fried to crisp when all is said and done.

Here are 5 useftips to help you prioritize your own needs this holiday season:

  1. Prioritize "Me Time": Set aside moments for yourself, even if it's just a few minutes a day. This can be for reading, meditating, or enjoying a warm bath or cup of tea. It's essential to recharge your energy, especially through the holiday season when we tend to GIVE GIVE GIVE. Schedule it in if you have to, but make "me time" a priority on your to-do list.

  2. Set Boundaries: Don't overcommit to social or family obligations. Be realistic about what you have space for, and say no when necessary to avoid stress and burnout. Trust me, it's going to be okay if you don't hit every single bake sale, holiday party and volunteer opportunity. And if you conciously choose which ones you can/can't attend, you'll be able to show up to the chosen activities more presently and more energized.

  3. Stay Active: Keep up with your regular exercise routine or find time for physical activities you enjoy. This can help relieve stress and maintain your overall well-being. I highly recommend getting outside for natural sunlight and fresh air as much as possible, especially in the winter months when daylight is shorter.

  4. Mindful Eating: Savor your favorite holiday treats in moderation while also enjoying yourself. Pay attention to how food makes you feel and nourish your body with balanced meals...not just peppermint lattes and cake pops! On that note, opt for nourhsing and grounding foods like high quality protein, hearty salads and root vegetables. During the winter months things smoothies and lighter meals can sometimes leave us feeling like we need more energy, so I recommend seasonal eating if possible to help you better align with not only the weather but also to help fuel you through the chaos that the holidays can bring. And of course, don't forget to hydrate!

  5. Connect and Communicate: Reach out to friends or loved ones for support and connection during this busy time. Sharing your feelings and experiences can be comforting. Furthermore, asking for help with small projects can be an absolute game changer for preserving energy levels and not totally losing our minds when it feels like the whole holiday season is on our shoulders.

and if you're like me, you might need this to look forward to

I am a big believer in having something to look forward to that motivates me and keeps me moving forward. I'm not gonna lie to you - I can easily fall into the mundane bits of life and get a bit depressed. That's part of the reason I created these retreats! So if you're like me, and you need a little reward, consider joining us this winter on a tropical women's retreat that is designed specifically to nurture the women who run the household, hold down the careers, care for the friends and family, cook all the turkeys, wrap all the gifts, and often put themselves last. I know it might feel scary to put yourself first, but trust me, you deserve to fill your cup too.
