Life Lately + How I Take My Coffee

Updated: Nov 19, 2023

It's hard to believe it's already the end of October. Literally, I write this on October 31st, and as I do, I can't help but reflect on the last 6 months of life and all that has changed.

We have officially been in Colorado for 6 months now. It's been a really amazing transition in so many ways, and very challenging in others. I am loving the weather - it is helping me come back to myself after a long detour. While I absolutely loved dessert life, being with the seasons as they change is so grounding and so much more aligned with my soul and my roots. The changing leaves, temps and shifting energy in the air somehow triggers inside me a reminder to sit and reflect, to shed what isn't serving me, and to relax into a slower pace for a while. If you didn't read my last blog post, you can read more on how the seasons bring me back to myself here.

And on the subject of change

There always seem to be something shifting in my world. For the past few weeks (or months really) I have been digging deep into what's next for my business and personal life. For the longest time my life was always about working (for other people) but lately I have been so much more focused on my health, my family, healing my heart, and spending my days more intentionally. What's funny though, is while I've been putting more energy into these areas, I've been sort of paralyzed in others. The past 6 months specifically have taught me a lot about my own capacity and where my priorities really are at this stage of life. I have been intentionally giving myself permission and space to just be and I've learned a lot about myself in that time.

One of life's most beautiful things

is that we get to always be evolving (like nature). We can change our minds, our looks, our careers, our friends, our values, our intentions, our missions and so much more whenever we want to. Everyday we get to choose how we show up in the world, and how we show up for ourselves. If you're used to showing up for others most of the time, you can probably feel me when I say, choosing to show up for yourself is a whole different level of self care. And when I say "show up for yourself" I am talking about the decisions we make for ourselves every day that effect not only that moment in time but everything thereafter. Every time we choose to show up for ourselves in an aligned way, we do ourselves and those in our world a service that is so much greater than we might see at the time, but overtime, we evolve into our truest selves, our days become easier, our smiles are more genuine, and the people around us notice that we're a bit brighter, and things seems to fall into place a bit more gracefully.

That is the lesson I am learning lately

To not force things, but to keep just showing up for myself in ways that feel aligned and watch everything around me unfold and fall into place as it will.

Let me leave you with a little reminder

Remember that each day, in the smallest of ways, you can make simple decisions for yourself that build overtime. It doesn't have to be one big massive decision. One of my decisions was literally this coffee. The ingredients, the ritual, the money I am saving by making my coffee at home, the joy it brings me because no one else is messing up my coffee LOLLL. Yes, even something as small as how you take your coffee can bring you joy and help you feel a little more aligned in your own life. <3

How I take my coffee

My favorite coffee for that past year or so involves one very important ingredient - collagen! I do like to mix up the flavors and creamer, and I'll share some examples, but the real star player here is the collagen. You may have heard of it, it's great for skin, nails, gut health, muscles, joints, inflammation, anxiety and so much more. I attribute my skin and hair health to my consistent use of collagen. Being a PCOS girly, I don't have as severe symptoms as some when it comes to acne and hair loss, and I really attribute that to my daily supplement of collagen. The best part too, there's 18 grams of protein in one serving of collagen! With that and all the other benefits, my morning coffee is not only loaded up with good vitamins and minerals, but the jitters are at bay and my mental clarity is on point. It's like starting my morning in self-care mode knowing that I'm doing good things for my body right away.

This has been my go-to coffee this fall.

It's light on sugar and packed with goodies from both the collagen and local honey. When I'm not feeling this combo, I like to use Califia Farms Vanilla Almond Milk Creamer with the collagen but no other added sweeteners. I really like to switch it up based on how I'm feeling that day but I always keep it conscious with the sugar intake :)

My favorite collagen, that I've been using for the last year or so, is Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides.

I'm gonna be straight with you - buy it at Costco! It's pretty spendy in your regular grocery store, and if you have access to Costco you can find it for about $30 for the largest container. If you don't have access to Costco, definitely shop around as I have noticed the prices vary. It has ZERO taste or texture and blends so smoothly into my hot or cold coffee. If you have an electric frothier thingy, it makes a great foam too. Check out the foam on this iced version!

Well, that's all I have for now. Thanks for the coffee chat. Before you go, I'm curious...can you relate to this post? There is a lot of heaviness in the world today, and there is a massive energy shift in this season. Are you experiencing this too? Do you feel yourself being more introspective? And, do you drink collagen coffee? Or do you have a different morning ritual that gets you started on the right foot? I would love to know in the comments if you can relate on any of these topics, and how you're staying aligned with yourself in a time that feels so upended.

with gratitude, Amy xoxo
